It's common for commentators to view inexperience an advantage, portraying experienced veterans as burned-out deadwood. For example, praise for the "passionate," "energetic" beginner teachers (both adjectives from the L.A. Times) has been a consistent theme of news coverage of charter operator Green Dot's takeover of Locke High School, also in Watts not far from Markham. (Green Dot fired most of the previous staff, getting rid of the veterans and replacing them with newcomers.)
