This is worrisome, in that there is no mention of what incentives may be handed out to Districts that begin this process.
Additionally, this multiple component evaluation program needs to be developed jointly between local teacher associations and the district. It is necessary to have mutual responsibility, respect and results for the development and implementaion of a program such as this for it to be truly effective and meaningful. Will there be a component for student / parent evaluation of the parties involved? Will there be a component for certificated and classified evaluation of the administrators? Too many unknowns to jump on the bandwagon at this point, but I’d love to be invited to the table to discuss, develop and design this program.
"Darn, I wish I had read that over again before I hit send.” Don’t let this be your lament. To promote a civil dialogue, please be considerate, respectful and mindful of your tone. We encourage you to use your real name, but if you must use a nom de plume, stick with it. Anonymous postings will be removed.
After a brief hiatus, SVEF’s education blog, Thoughts on Public Education (TOP-Ed), is back in a new format. The blog will focus on deep analysis of education issues, especially as they relate to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). These entries will attempt to translate complex education topics for readers as well as invite bloggers representing different perspectives to respond to our entries. We will also invite guest contributors to share their ideas about education along the way. We invite you to stay tuned to the new TOP-Ed.
We thank journalists John Fensterwald and Kathryn Baron for their work on TOP-Ed over the past three years. Their tireless efforts have successfully established TOP-Ed as a forum to present and discuss key education issues of the day. We wish them the best of luck continuing their excellent brand of journalism at EdSource and encourage you to keep up with them at edsource.org.
