Hip, hip, hooray for Anthony Cody! However many people ended up turning out for the march, I’m heartened by this one teacher’s attempt to change the narrative of what it means to properly educate children in the K-12 system. Speaking as a college instructor, I can tell you that the effects of NCLB and the insane emphasis on standardized testing versus promoting critical thinking skills has made OUR job that much harder since we suddenly find ourselves having to teach 18-year-olds the very same skills Mr. Cody used to be able to impart to his students when they were still in the K-12 system.
I can only hope that the powers-that-be in Washington heard this message and took it to heart. The current system is failing us all and it needs to change. NCLB has been an unmitigated disaster from the point of view of those of us in the trenches (and by that, I mean parents and students as well as teachers.)
I applaud your efforts and wish you well with your mission, which extends far beyond just the march in July. Keep fighting the good fight. You have more support than you know!

I agree with Anthony Cody and Charlotte Morrision that our current
system is failing us all and it needs to change. NCLB has been an utter ruin from
the point of view of those of us in the trenches, which are for the parents,
students, teachers and organizations and tutors profiting from the NCLB. I applaud Anthony Cody and the organization’s efforts
and wish you well with your mission and my prayers are with you. I will support
your efforts in any petitions and due to this economy and budget cuts I am in
the calculations of the unemployed, therefore at this time I cannot assist your
organization in its financial support. Hear … hear to the “Keep fighting
the good fight.”
